Hypertension with Hypertnsion Symptoms. Hypertnesion.
What is Hypertension?
Hypertension is the occurrence of abnormally high blood pressure (pressure of the blood in
the arteries of the body). This condition is indicated by taking blood pressure readings which are above 140 mm
Hg/ 90 mm Hg, measured while the body is at rest. Hypertension also known as High blood pressure.
As per an estimate, one in three American adults has hypertnesion (high blood pressure). Once a person develops hypertension this condition lasts a lifetime. However, hypertension can be treated and
controlled.
Hypertension Symptoms and Signs:
One of the concerning characteristic of hypertension is that one may not know that
he has hypertension. There are generally no directly related symptoms, so one doesn't gets to notice them. As a individual having hypertension doesn't shows any symptoms unless
the condition is severe, therefore hypertension is also referred to as 'the silent killer'.
Affected people may not get known to it until they have some problem
with their heart, brain, or kidneys. When hypertnesion is not treated, it causes:
- Moderate to severe headache, drowsiness.
- Numbness and tingling in the hands
and feet.
- Blood during coughing or have nose bleeds.
- Shortness of breath.
- History of high blood pressure on repeated check ups.
- Feeling of dizziness and ringing in the ears.
- Eye disorders (Vision problems).
- Fatigue or confusion.
- Chest pain.
- Difficulty while breathing.
- Irregular heart beat.
- Blood found in urine.
Hypertension Treatment:
Causes of hypertension are not yet known but some cases have resulted from conditions like hardening of the arteries, chronic kidney disease, disorders of
endocrine glands, narrowing of the main artery of the heart known as arota.
Risk of developing hypertension increases with adults over the age of 60 years,
people having sedentary lifestyle, habits of alcoholism and smoking. Other factors include stress, obesity, high salt
diet or diet with high saturated fat. Genetic factors (family background of hypertension) also tend to play some role.
Other possible causes may include kidney failure, stroke, heart attack or intake of contraceptive pills,
steroids and some forms of decongestants and appetite suppressants. Hypertension seems to affect the black community more.
As a person gets older he is required to get tested for hypertnsion more often. Annual testing is recommended for all
individuals over the age of 65. Middle aged people are required to get tested every two years.
Different types of medications are available to treat
hypertnesion. Some of these are described below:
- Beta blockers: Beta-blockers make the heart beat slower and with much lesser force. This makes the heart pump less blood
through the arteries and veins which thereby causes the blood pressure to come down.
- Angiotensin receptor blockers: Hypertension treatment with angiotensin
receptor blockers restricts the production of hormone namely angiotensin, which usually causes blood vessels to narrow. ACE prevents this narrowing which helps the
blood pressure to come down.
- Diuretics: Diuretics work by helping the kidneys to remove excess water and salt from the body. Intake of diuretics makes
the blood pressure to go down because it reduces the quantity of fluid in the blood. Various forms of diuretics are available and this
hypertension treatment drug can be combined with other high blood pressure pills.
- Calcium channel blockers: Hypertnsion treatment with calcium channel blockers prevents the calcium from entering into the heart muscle cells and blood vessels.
This makes the blood vessels to relax, and the blood pressure comes down.
