I have great news!!! I went and had a pap smear recently and it came back normal. I thought with the mild dysplasia that it would come back not normal but,it came back normal and I was so happy. I also haven't had any warts since that terrible painful procedure my
ob doctor done on me. Isn't that great!!! I started to wonder ...my husband and I both have been wondering if we could have gotten rid of it. Considering that we were told at the health department that you could get rid of it in a year if it does go away. If I was
tested now would it show up? I heard that it is a virus on the skin that can shed away. My husband and I didn't think that we would be the ones that would get rid of it in a year because of us having sex all of time together unprotected for trying to get pregnant and all. But, we both stopped having symptoms of it at a year. I go back for another pap smear in 4 months and if it comes out normal as well..they are going to move me back to a yearly pap smears. What does everyone think? Any thoughts on this?

I know that there are certain things that will indicate HPV through visual screening....but visual screening is not a diagnosis it is a guess based on the viewers experience. I had a spot on the vulva that was diagnosed by my Gyn as a hematoma. My dermatologist excised this spot and stated it was not malignant but did not do HPV screening as I request. The biopsy was reviewed again and screened for against the 13 HPV types. High risk was identified in the spot. VIN is often multimodal even upon a diagnoses of something like Lichen HPV DNA screening is not done. HPV can be present or occur at the same time as other conditions of the vulva. Biopsies are often viewed as unnecessary because of the high prevalence of HPV and because removing the visual spots are often the same. One of the reasons I do recommend a dermatologist for vulva abnormal is that many times they are more likely to biopsy a lesion and vulva
HPV is a skin related disorder and these are the dermatologist specialties.
