What is Eczema or Excema?

Eczema is a itchy, persistent skin condition comprising of skin inflammation and dryness (manifested by redness, thickening and crusting of the skin). Eczema or sometimes also called as dermatitis is a group of skin conditions which can affect people of all age groups. In the United Kingdom only, up to one fifth of school going children have eczema, and added to that about one in every twelve adults have excema.

Exema typically starts within a period of first 2 years of life. Acute episodes of eczema are called "flare ups". Eczema flare ups are unpredictable in regards to timing and potential triggers. The severity of the disease can vary. In mild forms the skin is dry, hot and itchy, whilst in more severe forms the skin can become broken, raw and bleeding. Although it can sometimes look unpleasant, but eczema is not contagious. With exczema treatment the inflammation caused can be controlled and reduced, however the skin will always be sensitive to flare-ups and therefore will need extra care.

The condition eczema is believed to be a hereditary, meaning it is genetically linked. It has been found that people who develop eczema are abnormally sensitive to some specific allergens. These allergens cause the immune system to overreact, causing irritated, inflamed and sore skin.

As per numerous researches eczema may cause feelings of anger and anxiety, and these emotions can make a flare up to trigger. Red inflamed patches, itching, lesions are some common symptoms.

Learning to reduce stress and manage emotions has been shown to be one of the most efficient and effective ways to reduce the intensity and frequency of eczema flare-ups and supports any excema treatment.

Although there are many types of eczema any of these can also be caused by an allergic reactions that may occurs inside of the body in response to any substance or food entering the blood stream.
